The blackjack basic strategy gives the player the best advice to play based on playing continuously. At some points in your game you will be losing, but at others you will be winning. It is designed to give you an overall winning margin, however there is no saying which point in your game that will be.
Because of this, experts came up with a more difficult, but more effective strategy to follow. This strategy is card counting and takes advantage of probability again. As the blackjack game is played and cards are dealt from the deck, the deck is no longer complete, so the probability of a certain card being drawn changes. Knowing when the cards remaining are more advantageous to the player and enables different tactics and betting opportunities.

There are several other factors that come into play with the different betting options. The first is deciding to surrender. This is where hitting or standing both seem disadvantageous to the player, as with the last example in part 1 where the player has to stick on 13. The loss rate here is 62.36 percent. However the winning return must be factored in here. When a player surrenders, they will receive half of their bet back. That means that while playing blackjack and the player surrenders whenever they have 13 and the dealer has a 3 card, there will be a 50% loss rate (because they are getting the other 50% of bet back.)

Blackjack involves quite a lot of strategy combined with some luck on your part. The rules are easy, but to win in the long-run you have to follow a strategy. This article includes the basic strategy card (at bottom) and explains how it works. Basic strategy, which is the actual name given to this method of play, tells the player what to do depending on what cards they and the dealer have. Because the basic strategy, if followed exactly can reduce the house edge to near 0%, casinos often use multiple decks which raises the house edge back to 1% even when basic strategy is used.

Before each blackjack game begins each player at the table will place their bet. Once the game is over bets are paid out. Players that bust lose. Players that then get a lower value than the dealer also lose. Players who beat the dealer win. Players that also get an initial blackjack on their first two cards win that hand straight away.
